We’ve been terrible about keeping up with our blog, but it’s not for lack of interest or enthusiasm. Rather, we’ve been dealing with elderly parents, which naturally gets one thinking about how we age and if there is such a thing as aging gracefully.
From a fashion perspective, I’ve noticed that as I get older, I’m tending away from wearing blacks and greys, and favoring bright colors. I think that trend is common, but why is it? My guess is that as one ages, life can seem bleaker (I know I’m TIRED of the incessant barrage of hateful political news…), and one seeks out anything that might uplift the spirits. Like bright colors.
When I found this light cotton skirt by Smash! at Green Roots Collection, I was attracted to its brightness and geometric pattern. Its two panels, one in solid black and the other in black and white, anchored the pattern.
I paired it with a stretchy tank, short-sleeved shrug and strappy black heels for a casual summer outfit. The floppy straw hat, by H&M, serves as a crucial addition on sunny days.
So, about that nocturia — aka “I have to get up three times a night to pee, I swear.” Luckily I wake up only once a night to pee, but it’s still a bother, especially when I can’t rub the sleep from my eyes fast enough as I’m barreling toward the bathroom.
I read the other day, from my trusty friends at People’s Pharmacy, about a home remedy for this pesky issue. Eat just a small amount of raisins, about 15 or so, before bedtime (and before you brush your teeth — raisins are sugary after all), and you may experience a decrease in the number of times you need to pee overnight. Give it a few days to work. So far, it’s working for me!

Straw hat by H&M. This one is similar.

My mom found this necklace for me, and it completely ties together this outfit. I’m wearing the matching earrings, but you can’t see them through my long hair!

If you try the raisin remedy, let us know if it works for you. Thanks for reading!
