Fini to Fast Fashion?

LifeAmongRubble by GraceyBy Abby and Elle

We feel that one can’t have a fashion blog and not acknowledge the recent tragedy in a Bangladesh clothing factory — just the latest in a spate of similar tragedies in Bangladesh and elsewhere in the developing world.

There is no easy answer (there never is). But we’re keeping a close watch on developments and, in the meantime, trying to determine how we can make an impact.

We are proponents of not spending a fortune on our clothing, but, at the same time, we’re not proponents of fast fashion; that is, ultra-cheap, trendy clothing that in a heartbeat moves from runway to closet, and is often discarded just as quickly.

We are proponents of spending money on quality classic pieces that will last for years and supplementing our wardrobe with decent thrift shop finds.

We’re also proponents of buying local from independent shops, which is why we try to feature these folks on our blog.

We don’t have the answers, but we hope to be part of the solution, not the problem.

Please tell us what you think. We’d like to hear from you!
